Webcam

This image is updated every few minutes. It is captured and uploaded by a D-Link DCS-5300 camera. Phil has a few of these installed with his clients and likes them so much he picked up one for the house.

It may be pointed at the house, our side field, or perhaps the old garage across the street. Who knows? In December it is usually pointed at our Christmas light display (after we get it up, of course). In the middle of the night you may not see anything at all. Darkness has that affect sometimes….

Getting this mounted outside was not easy. For starters, it needed to be protected from the elements so the camera is inside a box with an approximately 250 degree seamless plexiglass window. It is sealed everywhere with the exception of the bottom where the cables enter.

To make sure the snow plow didn’t disturb things in the winter we had to lay conduit under the driveway. Inside the 2″ diameter tubes are 2 extension cords and an ethernet cable. Why 2 power cords? One is on all the time to power the camera, the other is reserved for holiday decorations and is on a timer.
